I few weeks ago I was cycling through some colors in Photoshop using the Color Picker, and I was thinking about the different ways in which colors can be expressed and what they might say about themselves.
One of my favorite things about the color black is how, well, black it is. As Nigel from Spinal Tap fame reminds us:
It’s like, how much more black could this be? and the answer is none.
None more black.
Anyway, the hex value for black- 000000 – also indicates its none-more-black-ness, so I thought that having a go at giving hex colors a simple way of expressing themselves might be an amusing exercise. Continue reading →
This weekend proved an ominous beginning to my upcoming chemo treatment. On Sunday morning I woke up with what felt like the makings of the flu, which meant that most of the day was spent laying on the couch watching a History Channel series on the American Revolution. I should also mention that on Friday and Saturday I played through Portal 2.
Why mention Portal 2? (btw, my sister-in-law’s brother Brandon was one of the developers on this game, so I just wanted to say great job! If you haven’t played it yet, stop reading and go get it.)
When you descend into a delirium of fever and insomnia, your mind begins to create interesting connections. For the majority of the night I was engaged in tactical maneuvers utilizing a Portal gun in the fall of Fort Ticonderoga. Needless to say, one Portal gun would have made all the difference. Cannons aimed at you from the unguarded Mt. Defiant? No problem. Create a blue portal in the river, and shoot an orange portal under it. Problem solved. Of course, having the portal wall gel would be a necessity, as New England is not the Moon.
Yet.
At any rate, before the onset of my fever I managed to make up a video for KidsCOR. This is another attempt at an 8-bit video game style, which I kind of like. I also like 8-bit music quite a bit, so it makes for a grand convergence.
This video was entirely driven by the music, as the sound effects were built into the soundtrack. As such, I had to time and script the video to match it as closely as possible. I think it turned out pretty well, considering I ended up having about 6 hours to animate.
Anyway, I finally found a brief moment of coherence in which to post this, where I find I can string together more than mono-syllabic groans into a meaningful sentence.
Last Thursday Megan and I headed down to the Crown Center area to shoot some senior pics for Kyle Goebel. Kyle is an amazing musician who is also developing his graphic and web design ninja skills.
We picked up this sweet old school set of headphones at a garage sale for 50 cents, and I thought they’d make a nice prop. And of course downtown KC has no lack of cool locations, so it was fun. Continue reading →
This video is for rezlife’s upcoming series Issues. The series itself is going to deal with some fairly heavy topics, so they wanted the graphics and video to be light-hearted. I decided on going with Sven the Cow because, well, why not? Sometimes sheer randomity is the best policy, in my opinion.
